Clarifix for Rhinitis
CLARIFIX®
Nasal Symptoms Bothering You?
If you suffer with a constant runny nose, drainage down your throat (post nasal drip) and/or congestion and have tried multiple medications without success, you may have non-allergic (vasomotor) rhinitis. ClariFix could be your simple solution.
What Is ClariFix?
ClariFix is a clinically-proven, minimally innovative cryotherapy (localized freezing) that uses a cooling probe to freeze a small, inflamed area in the back of the nose. ClariFix is used to help treat people who suffer from chronic rhinitis. By freezing the tissue, it helps relieve the inflammation and pain.
ClariFix – An Innovative Solution
ClariFix has many benefits for reducing inflammation in the back of the nose. The benefits of this cryotherapy treatment include the following:
- Is a safe procedure
- Is performed in the office
- Has minimal discomfort (topical and local anesthesia is provided)
- Provides long lasting symptom relief in 4 out of 5 patients
What Is Chronic Rhinitis?
Chronic rhinitis is defined as inflammation of the nasal mucosa causing excessive mucus secretion (runny nose), congestion, nasal itching and sneezing. Rhinitis can be either allergic, non-allergic or mixed rhinitis (allergic and non-allergic.) Nasal nerves regulate functions of the nose such as nasal secretions. It is thought that interrupting these nerves results in the reduction of nasal symptoms such as runny nose (rhinorrhea) and nasal congestion.
Symptoms Of Chronic Rhinitis
Chronic rhinitis is defined as a multitude of symptoms that influence the nasal inflammation that you may be experiencing such as:
- Post nasal drip
- Congestion
- Nasal itching
- Sneezing
What Is The ClariFix Procedure?
Dr. Cohen performs ClariFix Cryotherapy right in our offices. First, he applies local or topical anesthetic to the treatment area at the back of your nose. Next, he takes the ClariFix device and an endoscope and enters your nose. These are advanced to the back of the nose where he uses the endoscope’s camera to see the area of inflammation caused by the improperly functioning nerves.
He then directs the end of the ClariFix device to the area and delivers the freezing cryotherapy onto those nerves. The cryotherapy interrupts the signals from the out-of-balance nerves that are causing your symptoms. The process takes just a few minutes and will be repeated in the other nostril as well.
Does A ClariFix Treatment Hurt?
We apply topical anesthetic prior to the ClariFix device being used. You may feel some slight pressure and a cooling sensation in the nose and possibly around your molars. There may be some minimal discomfort, but patients don’t describe it as being painful.
How Many ClariFix Treatments Will I Need?
ClariFix is meant for a single treatment in the back of the nose.
Is ClariFix Safe?
The FDA has cleared ClariFix for treatment of chronic rhinitis. The most common side effects associated with ClariFix Cyrotherapy are temporary increased congestion and localized pain or discomfort. These resolve quickly.
Will I Still Need Nasal Medications After The Procedure?
You can expect similar results to those noted above. This should dramatically decrease or completely remove your need for nasal sprays and other medications. Of course, this can vary by the patient.
What Kind Of Results Can I Expect With ClariFix?
In clinical studies to gain FDA clearance for ClariFix, 4 out of 5 patients reported long-lasting relief of their chronic rhinitis. It usually takes between two and six weeks post-treatment to see these improvements.
